How To Remove Stains From Carpets

How To Remove Stains From Carpets

We can all admit having shifted furniture around in our homes at least once to cover an ugly carpet stain. You may have a spotless house, but the tiniest coffee or soda stain on the carpet grabs people’s attention.

It’s a sad reality that muddy paw prints, wine spills, coffee stains, and other ungainly spots on the carpet are inevitable. As much as some of us would like to do it, it is also not always possible to replace an expensive Persian beauty or a Chinese rug because of a few dirty stains.

And let’s face it: it is not always the stains that could rob carpets of their original glory. With time, dust, dirt, and other elements can make a carpet look dull and dirty. Often vacuuming is not enough either to clear some stains and carpet dirt. So what does one do to restore carpets to their original beauty at home?

Below, you'll find some helpful hacks that can tackle various stains on your carpets.

1. Juice or Wine Stains

If your carpet has juice or wine spills or other vivid stains from liquids, you don't need to panic. Instead, spritz the stained portion of the carpet with club soda and grab a spotless microfiber cloth. Ensure the cloth is clean so it doesn't spread more stains on the carpet.

Now, start blotting out the club-soda-covered stains and repeating the act until the stain disappears completely

2. Pet Urine

Accidents happen, and your pets can urinate on the carpet at times. Even a toddler could do it. Luckily, here’s something to help remove urine stains from your carpet.

First, you must blot away the liquid as much as possible, then use an enzymatic cleaner on the stained portion. Make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions on the cleaner's packaging. By using a carpet cleaning product with enzymes, you can clean the stain and remove the odor.

3. Gum

This might be a challenge but leaving the gum sticking to your beautiful carpet is not an option. Hence, the best thing to do is roll up your sleeves and work. Start by peeling away as much of the sticky gum as possible. A good tip for this is to place a sealable bag of ice cubes over it.

Once the gum hardens, you can use a dull knife or a spoon to chip it away. Next, you must look for a dry-solvent cleaner to apply to your carpet. Use it to clean and vacuum away any lingering stains, following the manufacturer’s instructions on the label.

4. Stains from gravies, margarine, butter, or other fats

One of the most useful carpet cleaners for greasy stains is a home ingredient: baking soda. Yes, this household item can be quite effective at removing greasy stains, but you must be patient. You must begin by sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda on the stain and leaving it there for at least six hours.

Next, start vacuuming the stain and use a rubbing-alcohol moistened cloth to blot out the stains. If you do not have rubbing alcohol, you could also opt for a dry-solvent cleaner for carpets.

5. Mud Stains or Dirt

These are the most common and most inevitable carpet stains. To tackle these, you must first let the muddy or dirt stains dry off completely on your carpet before you start cleaning. Once the dirty elements have dried and hardened, you can take them off as much as possible, including clearing away residue.

Once you complete this, your next step is to vacuum the carpet. After this, treat your carpet to a detergent solution, which you can easily prepare at home. You could prepare one with white vinegar, warm water, and a mild dishwashing liquid and let the solution rest for ten minutes on the stain.

In the end, blot it away with a paper towel or a white cloth.

6. Tea and Coffee Stains

To get caffeine stains off your beautiful carpets, you must prepare a simple cleaning solution at home. You will require a tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap with two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. If the stains cover more areas of your carpet, you could increase the quantity of the ingredients in the same ratios.

Before applying the solution, blot away the tea or coffee spills first. Next, apply the homemade solution and allow it to rest on the stains for a few seconds. Then begin working the solution into the carpet with your fingers.

You can wash the stain away with water and then blot it away as you did before when you're done. If the stain remains, you can repeat the process until the carpet is spotless once again.
